Renovation Rollercoaster

This week presented another series of ups and downs. On Saturday, we met with Jeffrey Thomas, our Design Development project manager, and for the first time we were able to walk up a ladder and go into the house—a little scary actually! You would think this would have been a joyful experience—and it was—but it was also distressing because the interior didn’t look so hot.

You may remember that the house has steel beams running through it and that the windows have remained open all winter so that gusts of wind wouldn’t blow the house off its temporary cradle. But all that open sea air coursing through an unfinished house has consequences—and it looked a little worse for wear. The major upside, however, was the spectacular view—from the first and second floor! The view is truly transcendent and we could see clear beyond Long Island.

Coming down from the high of our breathtaking view, we also learned this week that the cost of rebuilding the porch was mistakenly omitted from our budget.  And of course, that is a huge expense, so that has been disheartening for us. 

Back to the plus side—the foundation has finally been poured! But, it’s going to take 27 days for it to cure and dry—so we can’t do anything for another month. I shouldn’t be surprised, right?
