The Great Gutter Debate of 2015

Written by Jaqui Lividini

In every life a little rain must fall, and thus is the age-old need for gutters. Gutters may not be the most glamorous aspect of a home, but I am told they are a necessary evil, so here we are. Of course, because they are so commonplace and essential to the foundation of a home, we (I use the we word kindly) completely forgot to budget for them in our initial assessment. Sound familiar?

In search of the perfect gutters we go! Faced with three different kinds of gutters to choose from, I find that I am struggling with the choices. First up is the commonly used K gutter, which is wavy with a rectangular shape and is relatively inexpensive.

Our second choice is the half-circle gutter, which offers more customization and is all around more streamlined and modern looking.

Our final option is a new-fangled type of gutter called a Rainhandler gutter.

I find most gutters to be—to put it nicely—not exactly aesthetically pleasing. So, I look to you, my readers for guidance. Is there a way to divert water without the use of unseemly gutters? Do you have any advice about the best gutter on the market today that will not hurt my eyes? Please let me know!
