Cha-cha-cha-changes!

Last post we presented a cautionary tale about contractors and this week we’ve got a seemingly logical extension to that. Over the holidays, with all the craziness of the season upon us, John and I made the decision to change contractors. Many factors went into this decision, but honestly it came down to the most fundamental of questions: have we been treated fairly? When the response to that is negative then there is only one thing to do: move forward with a new crew. 

Where does this leave us? Well, with five weeks of work left to do on the house, it leaves us with many decisions to be made. I could ostensibly move up to Connecticut for the month and become the contractor myself, hiring out subcontractors to do the actual work, but with my business based in Manhattan, that’s not really a true possibility. Luckily, with the help of our ever-increasing network we were able to find a new contractor lickety-split. We’re waiting for a few permits and hopefully we’ll be full speed ahead in no time.

This latest pitfall is almost certainly the result of not being onsite as much as we would be if we lived in the town where the beach cottage is located. “Out of sight, out of mind,” is not just a truism in this case it was our actual downfall. Chalk it up to another lesson learned in the never-ending story of the House on Haycock Point!
